We told you that ElcomSoft, a Russian software company, was using NVIDIA GPUs to crack many types of passwords, including WIFI access codes. They have just added support for AMD GPUs as well.
The idea behind these passwords is that it normally takes a long time to crack a password, making it impractical for hackers. The thing is: with hundreds of processing units, a GPU can crack a password a lot faster than traditional methods.
Elcomsoft presents its software as a tool to help administrators protect their network - by finding out how their networks defenses can be penetrated.
